The Commercial Zones

Civic

Located at the heart of Newcastle, the Civic Precinct area provides cultural and recreational spaces for Newcastle residents and visitors. The area comprises of the city branch library, the Art Gallery, Civic Park, entertainment venues, cafes, shops and businesses. Civic Precinct is bounded by Hunter, Darby, Queen and Auckland Streets.

The Civic Precinct also boasts a unique area for formal wear shopping, in particular bridal wear. Catering for the needs of the bride-to-be.



Darby St

Darby St was established in 1860 it is now the bohemian centre of Newcastle. With fabulous boutique shopping and amazing food in the numerous restaurants and cafes, Darby St draws in the crowds. Located off Hunter and King St close to the art gallery and library this popular area is a place for all visitors to Newcastle.

Darby St is one of the newest members of the Newcastle NOW area and we are currently working with the businesses of Darby St to identify their needs and priorities.

 

The East End

The East End of the Newcastle CBD features Hunter St Mall, a paved area for pedestrians and cars.

Ranging from Pacific St to Darby St the area encompasses a wide range of fashion retailers, food outlets, craft and hobby shops, health and beauty salons, artists and cultural instillations and much more.

 

Honeysuckle

Honeysuckle is the Hunter’s premier waterfront playground, where the glistening harbour meets the bustling city.

Honeysuckle is home to inviting cafes, world-class restaurants and hotels, extensive public spaces, boardwalks, outstanding residential apartments and town houses, a marina and a variety of busy commercial centres.

 

The West End

The West End is the entrance point to the vibrant Newcastle CBD area. This area has become an important area for those pursuing outdoor activities with places, such as Pro Ski, Anaconda, Civic Bikes and other sport retailers being located here.  If you are the budding musician or even just in need of a cup of coffee the West End is the place for you.

Marketown shopping centre is conveniently located on King and Steel St providing you with a CBD shopping centre experience.
