Held on Sunday 25 October 2015, Newcastle Street Food festival was a long table degustation lunch with the aim to raise money for the Soul Café. This celebration of food, wine, music and culture brought together renowned chefs from Newcastle’s East End Restaurants to cook for many of Newcastle’s leading business people.
Through a charity auction, ticket sales, donations and a dedicated crew of volunteers over $27,000 was raised for the Soul Café which, receives no government support and is primarily funded through the generosity of local individuals, businesses and fundraising activities.
Newcastle Now was on the project team, and assisted by coordinating the infrastructure setup, event licensing and compliance, as well as acting as event coordinator on the day.
Soul Café is a local not-for-profit registered charity that serves approximately 800 free, nutritious meals a week to Newcastle’s highly marginalised and disadvantaged community.
