For Christmas 2015, Newcastle Now placed four Christmas Giving Trees across Newcastle city centre where people could donate a gift for a less fortunate person to open on Christmas morning. The trees were located near city centre businesses with one placed at Sherwood Café (west end), Newcastle Mall overpass (east end), Wheeler Place (civic precinct) and level 1 Marketown Shopping Centre (west end).
People were invited to remove a tag from one of the trees, buy a gift from a local store and take the unwrapped gift with tag to one of six drop-off points across the city. The gifts were then collected by Newcastle Now team members and delivered to the Combined Charities Toy Warehouse run by the Samaritans & the Salvation Army Newcastle.
This project will run again in 2016. If you are a Newcastle city centre business and would like to register your interest in being involved in our 2016 Christmas Giving Tree campaign send us an email.
