Newcastle Now

City Precincts

In 2011, Newcastle was the first Australian city to make the Lonely Planet's 'Top 10 Cities to Visit' list and we believe there's a very good reason why. Bound by a working harbour and stunning beaches, Newcastle city centre has close to 3000 businesses which are divided into five major precincts. The Civic Precinct, Darby Street, East End, Honeysuckle and West End; each with its own unique personality and offering. To discover more, take some time to scroll through the options below.

Civic Precinct

Located in the heart of Newcastle, Civic Precinct offers an array of live entertainment venues, cafes, shops and businesses, including a unique strip of stores specialising in bridal and formal wear.

Darby Street

Darby Street is a unique shopping precinct that offers a true village atmosphere with over 100 boutique owner-operated businesses, each person passionate about their trade.

East End

The largest Precinct in Newcastle city centre is the East End, the area is home to many of the city's most historical landmarks including Christ Church Cathedral.

West End

The West End is considered Newcastle's rawest precinct with a selection of new businesses willing to push the boundaries. Here you will find a bakery specialising in sourdough cooking classes.
