Oma's Kitchen is a family owned and operated German cafe and restaurant located in the East End of Newcastle. Oma, German for Grandmother, was the inspiration
for Bavarian cuisine Haus made and importantly made with love.
Relax on their timber bench whilst gazing at the Bavarian Alps. Owner and founder, Cathy Fren, prepares daily Bavarian meals from recipes handed down by
her Grandmother Oma. With bier on tap as well as imported bottled bier, customers feel welcomed and relaxed.
The menu features traditional Bavarian food, including Goulash and Bread Dumplings, a selection of traditional German Sausages, Leberkase a German Meatloaf,
Schnitzel as well as German cold meats featuring Black Forest Ham, Salami,
Berlina and Liverwurst.
Oma's signature dish is their Pork Knuckle, taking 6 hours to cook, and served with potato mash, red cabbage, and jus. All meals are accompanied with traditional
Bavarian sides, all made fresh on the premises.
Vegetarian meals are on the menu including Quark Patties, traditional Cheese
Spaetzle and Potato Pancakes. Oma's kitchen also bakes daily German cakes, including Bavarian Apple Cake, Quark Cherry Torte, Apricot and Sour Cream
Cake, Black Forest Roll, Chocolate Cake and their best seller, Gluten Free Baked German Cake.
Coffee is served with Vanille Hoernchen, or German short-breads, also available in take-home packs.
