Alison Bodman, proprietress of Alie Jane, can often be found behind the counter of her glorious little shop, sewing her signature colourful shower caps,
eye masks, money belts, wheat bags, and toiletry bags for those travellers clever enough to stop by her shop before heading off on their trips. With a
fascination for 50s and 70s retro-inspired fabrics and bias binding, Alison has spent the last 8 years cornering the market in hand-made, unique and functional
travel gear in both Melbourne and Newcastle.
One of Renew Newcastle's success stories, Alie has set up shop permanently in the Hunter Street Mall after graduating from a collective using Renew's project
spaces and growing out of market stalls. Standing outside the shop peering in, many visitors can mistakenly think they know whats inside, but the truth
is, there's much to see in this treasure trove of hand crafted designs. Local and interstate designers, jewellers and seamstresses have a strong presence
in the shop, and Alie takes pride in curating the stock in line with the Alie Jane vision. Drop in to Alie Jane and take a moment to browse, you may be
surprised what you find!
